Hello Dear Loyal Readers,
This week I am finally finishing the final draft of the next book, “Fourth and Long: The Fight for the Soul of College Football.” Due Tuesday. Not even kidding. So, alas, no Bacon Blog this week.
But I can offer a link to my recent TEDxUofM talk on “The Past, the Future, and Why Human Nature Doesn’t Change.” In it, I explain why we too often fail to understand history (because we see it as inevitable, when the people living it didn’t); why we too often fail to predict the future (because we discount the human element, and our need to be together); and why the story of Jackie Robinson ties it all together. All in fast moving 12 minutes of song and dance. Well, mainly just jokes.
By the way, you’ll hear me make a joke about remodeling the place at around the 9:30 mark. That may seem strange, but it’s because at that moment, an extremely loud saw kicked in thanks to some workers backstage who didn’t realize what we were doing. Now you know.
Hope you like it — and see you soon!
